Nippon Koei Co., Ltd in Joint Venture with Nippon Koei India Pvt. Ltd are executing the Project Management Consultancy Contract for Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). To support the rural development of India, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement with the Government of India on 31st October 2016 to provide an Official Development Assistance Loan (ODA) of 4,652 million Japanese Yen (approx. Rs. 277 Crore) for the “Project of Jharkhand Horticulture Intensification by Micro Drip Irrigation” to the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) under Department of Rural Development, Govt. of Jharkhand for promotion of Micro Drip Irrigation (MDI) in the state of Jharkhand.
The project is targeting 30,000 farmer households across nine districts of Jharkhand. The farmers to be supported under the project are members of the Self-Help Group (SHG), formed by the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS), and these farmers own either own freehold or leased farmlands. The project adopts a holistic approach wherein farmers are provided with an MDI system, a poly nursery house, a Vermin-compost unit, some agricultural tools, and intensive training on the MDI system’s horticulture, marketing, and O&M.
The target of registration of 30,000 farmers has ended. The total number of registered farmers now stands at 31861 (including Batch I of 3000, Batch II of 13500, Batch III of 13500, and a special drive of 1861). JICA has accorded Extension of Time for the Project since it has completed 72 months of execution and various activities are still to be taken up and completed.
